Apologise for the lapse in update, I am currently managing my exams.. Just finished a paper earlier today, with another up on Thursday.
Anyhow, I have some pointers scribbled down on my notepad sometime back. I have been wanting to share with you guys an experience, which almost by default came up to a short writeup inside my mind with a "lesson". Alright, without further ado, let me put it together...
I came across a ramen shop called the Santouka. The name was familiar, and after I got home I was right - Santouka's flagship store is based in Sapporo, Hokkiado. To date they have about 40 branches across Japan today. Apparently, I think I had their famed ramen when I last visited Japan years back.
As it was past the mad lunch hour rush, it was rather vacant and I chose the seat facing the river.
Next to me was a Japanese family tucking away their meals;
Everyone around me was conversing in Japanese...
I placed my order and stared into blank, letting my mind run loose... It was surreal, and at that moment, I felt like I was in Japan.
When my ramen arrived, I savoured every strand of the noodles and almost licked dry the bowl. Yes, the soup broth was nice, if not heavenly.
With a view of Clarke Quay to boot, and ramen in the range of 10-odd 20, nothing could go wrong here. Looking for a quick fix of quality ramen or a "cheap getaway" to Japan? Look no further, patron Santouka today.
Words of advice though, as I recollected, this place is rather thicky to find. Best bet is to look up the mall directory before attempting to locate the "gateway to Japan".
My thought was...
There is no need for companionship, no need for fanciful decor, no need for variety of dishes and absolutely no need for entertainment or engagement of activities. Indulging in a simple meal amidst the rustle and bustle of life: Food for the mind, my simple moment in life.
Have you bring yourself back to humble ground, ignore the rat race for a bit and rejuvenate your mind and soul? Go on, they deserve that pat on the back. =)
P.S. Santouka is located at The Central, #02-76.
