Dave was on holiday with a few of his friends to Hanoi with a couple of fellow course mates. Ken was from Vietnam, and during the Summer break he offered to host this close clique consisting Dave, Nick, Burt and Ken himself.
Ken lived with his dad and sister in a small but cosy apartment in the city. The guys will be staying put for the first few days and decide where to move on from there.
They were just back to Ken's apartment from the airport when the door threw opened, "Brother!" June, Ken's sister, threw her arms around and hugged her flesh and blood. She teared and Nick was teasing her, "Wa, what a big girl also cry. I dont know you two, i might think you two are lovers." Deep within them (Ken and June), they knew they were each other's pillar for they lost their mum at a tender age, and that their dad is always stern and seldom spoke.
Dave was caught staring into space where the others caught him. "You fall in love with ants too, our Romeo?" said Nick as the other roared with laughter. "Romeo" is Dave's nickname as he's always full of thoughts, with the never fading zest for penning Romantic poems, and ever positive thoughts about finding that perfect "Juliet" meant for him. "Dude, what were you thinking while staring into blank mate?" asked Burt. "Er.. Nothing, i'm sorry about it guys. Let's unpack and wash up."
When everyone was seemingly asleep, Dave wasnt. He was tossing left and right from his make shift bed on the floor. "Sniff, sniff." He heard frail cries from within the room. He got up, and tip toed towards where the sudden light dissonance orginated. He pushed open the door to find June weeping on her bed. "Mind if i come in?" June was startled, afterwhich she nodded in agreement.
Dave, was right. He just thought, earlier in the day, those tears meant something else. It's more than the physical absence from her brother, it's like a pain she would like to share, yet restricted. June, was raped by her dad when he was drunk. Ever since that incident, whenever her dad comes home, he would request for it. She had no choice, but to oblige. Knowing his brother's nature, he would kill their dad for sure.
Dave promised her not to disclose this fact to anyone. He didnt think June was "dirty", instead he pitied her. She's brave, yet considerate. If living in misery means her brother could continue to pursue his studies, she would. If living in silence means her brother could be free from being his future jeopardised, she would. She only pray for his brother, Ken, to graduate and be successful in his life. One fine eighteen year old lady's future was darkened by the very person who gave her very own dad.
What comes afterwhich? Stay tune, might have a sequent to this.
If one come across this trauma, i would bet my last penny that 80% would have thought of ending their life. Think, your own kin.. Well, actually i think it's the bond the two shared make the victim think it's unacceptable and disappointed.
With nowadays young chicks get hooked to uncles, old enought to be their grandpa, and divorcee getting another marriage and stuff. I believe in this current era, faithfulness means nothing. Physical gains are money buyable, and i'm shocked to hear our previous generation mostly were matchmaked.
So we're mostly the by-product of matchmaked parents, i wonder if our existance are mere coincidence. Ha..
Then again, my mum's generation and all can be matchmaked yet many stayed faithful. We the next, talked about love and yet ended up divorced, why? Temptations are increasing by the days i would reckon with the growing economy and technology. How can we make things simple again?
